Erin N. Birt
Attorney
Erin Birt, JD, CADC, is a divorce attorney, mediator, and creator of the Restorative Divorce® process. For more than 20 years, she has focused her practice on resolving divorce and parenting matters outside of court through mediation, negotiation, collaborative divorce, and structured legal planning.
As founder of Birt Family Law, Erin focuses exclusively on out-of-court divorce and family transitions. Drawing on her experience as both a former litigator and former Guardian ad Litem, she brings a unique perspective to cases involving children, complex family dynamics, and difficult decision-making. Her work emphasizes informed choices, practical agreements, and maintaining greater control over outcomes affecting children, finances, and the future.
Erin originally joined Collaborative Divorce Illinois (formerly the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois) in 2010 and served as the West Suburban Practice Group Leader in 2012. She later rejoined the organization because of its commitment to respectful, solution-focused divorce resolution and its community of highly skilled interdisciplinary professionals.
In addition to her legal background, Erin is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), providing valuable insight into cases involving substance use concerns, parenting issues, and family dynamics. This multidisciplinary experience allows her to address complex challenges while maintaining a focus on long-term family stability and workable resolutions.
Whether serving as collaborative counsel, negotiating a settlement, or acting as a mediator, Erin brings more than two decades of experience resolving family disputes without unnecessary court involvement. Her approach is structured, practical, and focused on reaching durable agreements that serve families well beyond the conclusion of their case.
